Christ is the Reason

A good reminder:
I printed the image reversed onto iron-on paper, ironed it onto muslin and then mod podged it to a 5x7 metal piece of roof flashing:

Toffee Fudge

A new holiday sweet:
I usually make toffee and fudge . . . so why not fudge on top of the toffee?  It is YUM!  You won't be able to stop eating it until it has disappeared ;)

Toffee
2 cups butter
2 cups brown sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 tsp salt
Line a jelly roll pan with aluminum foil and then add 1/2 cup chopped almonds (I roast mine for about 10 minutes in  the oven)
Combine all ingredients and bring to a boil over med-high heat stirring constantly.  Once it's boiling, cook it for about 10 minutes, testing it by strewing a tiny bit onto a plate and then giving it the bite 'test'. If it's crunchy, it's ready - LoL  Can you tell I don't use a candy thermometer?  I use my pressure cooker pan when making candy - it's the best method.
Pour hot candy onto aluminum foil and spread as evenly as you can.

Fudge
I use the recipe on the back of a marshmallow creme jar - the best!
So then I just pour the fudge on top of the toffee and let it set for 2 hours or put it in the freezer to set up quicker.  Break apart - don't forget to look on the bottom of the toffee for foil that needs to be removed - sometimes it sticks!
I added more chopped almonds on top of the fudge - last month I used macadamia nuts - oh my yumminess!

homemade pillow cases

I sewed flannel pillowcases for Brady & Keaton which they got a few days early:
I even sewed a little brown flannel in between the two patterns, I'd make it a tad bigger next time
JoAnn's only had cute little kid flannel, glad the boys didn't mind ;)

Cocoa on a stick

homemade marshmallows (cut with a flower cookie cutter):
Made half doggie cookies and half:
to bring to the cookie exchange.
I layered 2 pieces of cocoa fudge with cinnamon and 1 piece of marshmallow on a caramel apple stick and swirled it around in red hots finely chopped:
bagged it up:
then made a chocolate spoon to go with:
put both the stick and the spoon in a disposable hot beverage cup with a label on the cup
For the cocoa recipe and I added the mixture to my piping bag and then piped it into silicone molds and they popped right out - loved how easy this was!

Cookie Exchange

I do like a good cookie and holiday treats . . . but if you're supposed to make 3 dozen for a cookie exchange I'm thinking dog lovers will appreciate this instead of just another sweet?

I designed a label for the top of a baby food jar to identify the contents:
The collar graphic I made myself and the recipe for the dog cookie is on the back!  The dangling jingle bell I was hoping would act as a charm on a collar . . . but I don't like it - maybe it's just the wrong placement of it . . . maybe the jute is just too thick?
2 Peanut Butter Dog Treats inside:
I think I'll omit the ribbon - it doesn't stay on when you go to open the jar (unless I mod podged it?) . . .  so that sounds like a lot of extra work anyway ;)

Maybe just tie jute around the lid and adhere the jingle bell to that?  Any suggestions?  =)

brown sugar squares

I found this recipe online for a copy-cat for See's Candy Brown Sugar Squares . . . I'm not convinced - they are a little 'crunchy' for me - I want softer!  hehe
I cut them into squares and dipped them into melted chocolate . . . the picture above is just a remnant - I didn't take a picture before they were devoured on Sunday =(

Leftover cheesecake?

Hide it in a cookie ;)
Ahhh, there it is:
Roll a teaspoon or so of your leftover cheesecake and then roll cookie dough (1 box white cake mix, 1 dry sm pk cheesecake jello, 2 eggs, 1/2 cup oil, 1 tsp vanilla bean paste) around that and bake for 8 minutes on 350 degrees.  I dyed the cookie dough red for a Christmas look.

I heart picks

Christmas picks that is!  I'm pretty sure it has to do with me loving all things sparkly and shiny ;)
This is our mantel - I love it . . . beware there are a lot of pictures posted of the same thing - LoL

Christmas Trees

here's our upside down Christmas tree, a tradition that is 7 years old:
i made a topiary
and then added it to the top of our small tree:
 baby mini tree
This year, the ornaments I added were ones I made, they are flowers made out of mesh ribbon:

Christmas Ball Ornaments

I love Christmas ball ornaments!

and I love decorating with them . . . too bad I can only use them for 1 month out of the whole year!
