framed youth theme

I picked up two mirrored frames but you could easily place a mirror inside a frame and attach a smaller frame to the mirror and then add your own image to that:

I added the youth theme - they're hanging in my computer room.

I just taped these images I designed over the original flower pictures and then I can replace them every year.

I was going to do a masculine one since I have boys, but I'm decorating and I wanted it to match my decor ;)

I suppose if teenage boys appreciated the cuteness, I'd probably spend the time to design a more masculine layout - hehe  Maybe for their bedrooms . . .

Based on the talk from General Conference April 2011, Sunday afternoon session by Lynn G. Robbins - having a 'to be' list. So I just used it based on the LDS youth theme for 2011 - the 13th article of faith:

Cupcakes!

We sold regular size cupcakes for $3

Cinnamon Swirl Cake with cream cheese frosting

Keaton's birthday cake - I made this for the seminary kids this morning - it was a hit!

Looks like an average cake to me in the picture, but it is yummier than it looks - so moist and cinnamony ;)

I altered the ingredients from this cake recipe

1 cup+2 tbsp butter

2 cups sugar

1 cup brown sugar

Cream butter with sugar until fluffy and combined. Add eggs 2 at a time.

6 eggs

2 tsp butter vanilla emulsion (can substitute vanilla extract)

1 cup sour cream

In a separate bowl, sift together:

2 cups flour

1 cup cake flour

1/3 cup corn starch

1 tsp baking soda

1 tsp kosher salt

1 small pkg dry cheesecake jello pudding mix

Add to batter just until mixed.

Combine:

1 1/2 cups brown sugar

1 tbsp cinnamon

1/2 tbsp ground cloves

1/2 tbsp nutmeg

1/2 tbsp ground ginger

**(had some left over, I just saved it for snickerdoodles)

Sprinkle 1/4 mixture on bottom of parchment lined cookie/1/2 sheet pan. Spread batter out over top and then remaining topping - swirl into cake batter with a knife. sprinkle a few handfuls of turbinado sugar for a crunch on top if desired.

Bake 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes.

After cooled, frost.

Cream cheese frosting

1/2 cup butter

8 oz cream cheese

3 cups powdered sugar (or less - just taste it so it doesn't get too sweet)

1 vanilla bean or 2 tsp vanilla extract

1-2 tbsp milk

Half this recipe for this cake because you don't need it all either - just drizzle it over the cake.

Random Acts of Kindness

So cute . . . these boys didn't get in trouble or have to do this and they certainly didn't do it for any girls, teenage boys did a 'feel good' act and they got recognized this time (they clean up a few times a year):

Tomatillo Salsa - Yum!
Baked a flour tortilla in a fun little pan, lightly buttered it after baking and sprinkled it with cinnamon and sugar. Two scoops of ice cream, homemade hot fudge sauce, strawberries, sprinkles and homemade whipped cream - yum!
We were supposed to have family over and they had to cancel at the last minute . . . but all the preparation was done - so I had to show what they missed to get them to reschedule ;)

Wire Wrapped Utensils

A daughter of a friend of mine got engaged, so I beaded some utensils for her shower:

The wire isn't perfectly shaped . . . but hopefully it's just considered handcrafted and overlooked ;) hehe

Glue the rocks with E6000 glue, let dry overnight and wrap with 3 feet of wire. I've seen these done with flat marbles and beads too, but smoothed pebbles is what I had on hand - plus I didn't know what her fav color or kitchen colors will be. Now they'll match anything - definitely an earthy look.

Staying Over in a snow cave

Would you sleep in this if you were first standing on top of it and then saw this entrance?

Not for me ;)

But the scouts did this as a group and had a blast . . . aside from freezing!
Keaton used his sled to carry his pack and tools:
